DP World Tour: Yurav Premlall threatens Tiger Woods' record during 14-shot win at Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship

Yurav Premlall stormed to a maiden DP World Tour title with a remarkable 14-shot victory at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship.

Premlall took a five-shot lead into the final day at Real Club de Golf El Prat, having fired a course record with a third-round 63, then extended his control of the contest with six birdies in his first nine holes on Sunday.

Back-to-back birdies from the 12th hole temporarily moved him 14 strokes ahead and put Tiger Woods' record-breaking 15-shot winning margin at the 2000 US Open under threat, only for Premall to card his only bogey of the day at the par-four next.

Premlall responded with a birdie at the 17th and added another at the par-five last, with a nine-under 63 seeing him finish on 28 under and 14 shots clear of compatriot Shaun Norris - the second-largest win in DP World Tour history.

"I've worked so hard to get into this position and it's so rewarding to finally see the results of it," Premlall said. "The last eight or nine months have been such a struggle, just to build myself onto a platform where I knew I could give myself a chance to win.

"Obviously to end up in this position, I'm just so, so grateful. It's just a dream come true. I can't give myself enough credit today and I'm not really a person to say that, but that was probably the most complete performance I've ever put through."

Premlall took advantage of the par-five first and rolled in from 15 feet at the third to spark a run of three consecutive birdies, with the South African chipping in from off the eighth green and picking up another shot at the ninth to race to the turn in 30.

Three birdies and a three-putt bogey over the next eight holes left him requiring a final-hole eagle to match Woods' US Open winning margin 26 years ago, with Premlall finishing left of the green in two at the par-five last but chipping to set up a tap-in birdie.

JC Ritchie shared third spot on 13 under with Alejandro Del Rey and France's Oihan Guillamoundeguy, while England's Dan Bradbury was in the group tied-sixth after a final-round 69.

Former Ryder Cup player Chris Wood secured a maiden HotelPlanner Tour title after snatching an emotional win at the Italian Challenge Open.

The Englishman signed for a bogey-free final round of 66 to win in his first start of the year on the 2026 Road to Mallorca, having graduated from the MENA Tour - the third-tier circuit - earlier this season.

Wood - starting the day tied for the lead - posted four birdies on his front nine and added another on the par-four 15th, then got up and down from the par-five last to birdie the final hole.

He ended the week on 22 under and a shot clear of Portugal's Tomas Gouveia, with the 38-year-old visible emotional after closing out victory and continuing his resurgence from the sport.

"It [winning] feels brilliant," said Wood, who has struggled with form and injury in recent seasons. "What a tough day. Tomas' [Gouveia] back nine, he lit it up all of a sudden out of nowhere. Me and Barclay [Brown] have had 36 holes of really strong golf together, we've pushed each other along.

"You're never given tournaments, you have to go out and earn them and I feel like I did that. This win is a massive step in the right direction, obviously there's a long season ahead, but this is just my first event of a long season on this tour, and it's an amazing way to start."

The men's major season continues this week with the PGA Championship, as Scottie Scheffler returns as defending champion and chasing a fifth major in as many seasons. Live coverage from Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania begins on Thursday from 12.30pm on Your Site Golf.

The next regular DP World Tour event is the Soudal Open, held at Rinkven International GC in Antwerp, Belgium from May 21-24. or .
